| How will the UK Government define "separate collection" of materials? | | Ever since the Campaign for Real Recycling Judicial Review of whether commingled waste collections can qualify as "separate collection" as required under the Waste Framework Directive, there has been a big question hanging over the recycling industry and local authorities. Would commingled collections continue to be permitted under any new definition fo separate collection? And where would this leave MRF operators and local authorities who are committed to collected mixed recycling?
There is a fascinating article on Isonomia by Phillip Ward that explores how Defra seems to be thinking on this issue - and explains why it appears there's still plenty of thinking to be done.
